JOUR 616 is an advanced course in broadcast news journalism. Students will learn best practices in video production, reporting, writing, editing, audio recording/mixing and presentation. Through experiential training, students will hone their skills as TV journalists and develop a first-hand understanding of fundamental concepts such as: what is news and what makes a good visual story; how to find stories and locate sources; how to plan and structure a video package and researching stories; efficient and effective interviewing; fact-checking; impactful writing; and conducting oneself professionally and ethically.    

The primary purpose of the course is to arm students with the necessary skills to develop and deliver short TV news reports in the field.

 After completing this course, students will be able to:   

  • Evaluate and apply journalistic skills to produce video packages.
